Resentment pertains to the mental process of repeatedly replaying a feeling and the events that led up to it that angers or goads a person. In resentment, you do not replay a cool litany of the facts. Instead, you relive and re-experience them in ways that can affect you physiologically, emotionally and spiritually in extremely ways. The inability of overcoming resentment is probably the biggest secret to repair a severed friendship, family rift, or a shattering intimate connection.
Resentment embodies the basic choice of refusing to forgive, the unwillingness of letting bygones be bygones and burying the hatchet. You rehash and review your painful past even if you tell yourself that you want to let it go.
